Two new stories
Two stories!
- "Tractate Metim 28a", a comic zombie story set in the Talmud, is coming out in Rebecca Levine and Lavie Tidhar's e-book anthology Jews vs. Zombies. Like "The Book of Jashar", this story is a pseudoepigraphy, inspired by my discovery of just how fantastically wackjob the Talmud can be.
Proceeds from the anthology and its companion volume go to UK charity Mosac.
(One request when you read this story -- don't neglect the footnotes. A lot of times, the gag is in the footnotes. If you read it on an ebook reader, you can generally click on the footnote number to read it, then click on the number again to navigate back to the text.)
- "The First Gate of Logic" is coming out in Stories for Chip, a Samuel R. Delany tribute anthology edited by Bill Campbell & Nisi Shawl. Delany is one of my literary heroes & formative influences, so I couldn't really say no to this one.
Attentive readers will note that, like "Fift & Shria", "The First Gate of Logic" is actually an excerpt from The Unraveling; in this one, Fift is five years old.
A common thread connecting these two announcements: in both cases, I was collared at a con by a persuasive and enthusiastic editor -- Lavie at WFC in Brighton, and Bill at Capclave -- which was also true of "Fift & Shria". So, if you want me to write you a story, apparently that works...

Maybe only whether it's a Heart or Insight challenge should be hidden, and maybe the Showrunner should pair up Singers for dramatic scenes with competing needs, awarding tokens to the ones who yield? Also, the resolution table is far too harsh, as it turns out.
