Happy New Year! We had a sleepover-with-the-kids amidst a moderately tumultuous New Year's party. I woke Aviva up, by prior agreement, at ten to midnight, and she curled up on a soft chair until it was time to shout "10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1... Happy New Year!" And then she was groggily carried back to bed. I wasn't sure how much she'd retain, but sure enough, she and Noah spent the next day running around counting backwards and yelling "Happy New Year!" and sometimes "Happy New York!" and otherwise ringing in the new. I got a New Year's day present in the mail -- a contract from Gardner Dozois to reprint "The House Beyond Your Sky" in "The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Fourth Annual Collection". Along with the Strahan and the Horton, that means that story is in three of the four SF years' bests reprinting 2006 stories (I'm looking at you, Cramer and Hartwell... :-) )
