On Blogging If I don't stop waiting to blog until I have a perfectly complete, perfectly articulated essay, it's never gonna happen. That is why, Rosenbaum, it is called a blog. It is meant to be all bloggy and instant and spontaneous. Let go of your vetted Encyclopedia Brittanica twentieth century creaky pedantic antiquated Generation X hangups, man! This is analogous to problems in many other areas of my life. Posted by benrosen at March 5, 2009 10:53 AM | Up to blogComments
Word. Though as a blog, it is also "meant" to be whatever you mean it to be, whether that's something spontaneous or a polished product more in line with your antiquated notions. It's up to you to do with it whatever feels right to you, so the trick is to figure out what feels right, and then find a way to make it so. (And I bet that is analogous to many other areas of your life, too.) Posted by: Karen at March 5, 2009 12:54 PMVery true, but the conflict is an internal one; it's not that I feel beholden to externally imposed models of blogging -- I'd like to shoot from the hip and have more out there. I'd like to relax my internal editor. It's not so much my notions which are antiquated, as my inhibitions. Then you'd see the blog postings whose imprecision currently bothers you as suddenly representing the epitome of polish and depth. I'm not entirely unserious here. Posted by: Jackie M. at March 7, 2009 05:28 PMimperfect, incomplete, inarticulate sentences, that is. Case in point. Posted by: Jackie M. at March 7, 2009 05:30 PMI think what Jackie meant to say is WHY ARE YOU SITTING IN A BAR TALKING WITH MOLES ABOUT SUPERHEROES WHEN YOU SHOULD BE BLOGGING?
